Balotelli: I just wasn't scoring

The striker insisted he had not have any problems which affected his form after he got back on the scoresheet in a 2-2 draw with Livorno

AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli has insisted he “just wasn’t scoring” and rejected suggestions he was in problematic form following his double in a 2-2 draw at Livorno on Saturday.

Kaka teed up Balotelli for his first, a tap in, before the Italian got his double with a lethal free-kick in the 83rd minute – an equaliser after Livorno struck either side of half-time.

Then, in the dying stages, the former Manchester City man unleashed a long-range strike that hit the underside of the crossbar before bouncing away to safety, but he believes he will see better luck next time.

“That’s football. Next time it will go in,” Balotelli told Sky Sport Italia.

“I have always been in good shape and never had any of the problems that were written about. I just wasn’t scoring, that’s all.”

Balotelli conceded Milan – who are under pressure this season, sitting 22 points behind leaders Juventus – are susceptible defensively when throwing players forwards and hopes that their good form brings with it better fortune.

“We need to be more careful when our opponents go on the counterattack, because every time they do we tend to concede,” he added.

“We are playing fairly well and are scoring again at last, which was a problem before, so now we just need a little more luck.”

Milan next face Ajax in their final Champions League group game, with at least a draw needed to ensure they qualify for the last 16 of the European competition.
