Gravina wants to freshen up Serie A

The FIGC President Gabriele Gravina has proposed a new format for Serie A, with ‘three phases and a Final Eight for the Scudetto’.

Gravina insists the interest fades with the current format and admitted he works to change the championship and keep it ‘fascinating every week’.

“I’m working on a three-phase championship, with a Final Eight for the Scudetto,” Gravina told Il Corriere dello Sport.

“We can’t change internally; it’s feared that the play-offs will penalise those who are used to winning. Instead it won’t, if you manage to build a championship that fascinates every week.

“We risk losing spectators in the current one, because in some phases it’s no longer decisive to win or lose. And at that point it makes no sense.”
